Dance classes’ criteria

When selecting your class, the most important criteria are knowledge of steps and formations, your ability to assimilate instructions, and your physical ability to keep up with the pace of the class (rather than the number of years you have been dancing or of dances attended).  Please see the list of formations linked here to check whether you meet the requirement for your chosen class. If in doubt, ask your regular  teacher or contact Joanne Lawrence on 07747617953, email: classes@rscdslondon.org.uk for advice.

• Very Advanced: participants are expected to be able to dance in a technically correct manner all the formations in List 1 and List 2 without a walkthrough, or any additional coaching. They must also have a good dancing knowledge of the formations in List 3. Dancers should be able to illustrate good phrasing, handing and covering. In addition dancers must be able to assimilate instructions quickly, keep up with the pace of the class, and sustain a high level of performance throughout both sessions.

• Advanced: participants must be of a high standard, have a sound knowledge of all steps and formations in Lists 1, 2 and 3 and be able to execute them accurately. In addition dancers should be able to assimilate instructions quickly and be able to maintain a good level of performance throughout both sessions.

• Intermediate: participants should be familiar with the formations in List 1 and be able to dance most formations from the list with only an occasional reminder. They should have a good standard of dancing and be aiming to improve their personal technique.

Newcomers and Beginners are encouraged to join our Beginners' course at Maria Fidelis School (starting in early October) or Beginners/Improvers class in Richmond (runs September - June).

NB: classes allocations will be confirmed at the Day School. London Branch and teachers reserve the right to allocate students to classes as they see fit.
