For some years, The Reel has run at an increasing deficit, with the membership subscription not even covering the cost of printing and distribution, and the costs of The Reel being met from other income.

The committee ruled out an electronic only version because we recognise that the printed version is important to many people who cannot access material digitally.  We also ruled out increasing the subscription to cover this because that would have meant an unacceptably large increase along with the increases in the Society element of the subscription.

Reluctantly, we have decided to print three issues a year to save a quarter of the costs. Clubs and Societies who advertise on the back page will continue to pay £30 but will also have their adverts on a page on our website as well as appearing in the eUpdates.

We plan the next three issues to be end of August 2026, end of November 2026, early April 2027 with the copy deadline remaining the usual 6 weeks in advance.
