Dance Around The World 2019

Our demonstration team took part in this weekend of dance at Cecil Sharpe House, Camden, London on Sunday 27 October 2019. Dance groups from around London gathered to demonstrate and introduce others to their particular form of dance. The gallery below shows a selection of the groups, from Balaton Hungarian Dance group, Muraldo African and Caribbean dance group and A Caramiña Galician Dance Group to historical dance provided by Mrs Bennet’s Ballroom class.

The Scottish dance team gave a display of 4 sets of country dances with music from Peter Jenkins on accordion interspersed with highland dances from Amanda Esslemont to the bagpipes of Neil Esslemont. Read more »

Representing the Branch

Dem Team 2008

Classes are currently suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We hope to resume activities in Autumn 2021 and will advise members and friends of the Branch via the website, eUpdate and social media as soon as we are able to restart. We look forward to dancing with you as soon as possible.

A monthly ‘Demonstration’ class on a Tuesday evening 7pm – 9pm

The Branch runs a monthly class on Tuesdays for advanced dancers, taught by Mervyn Short, to work on a repertoire of dances that can be used for public displays. Classes are held in the Upper Hall at St Columba’s Church, Pont Street, London SW1X 0BD.

The aim of the team is to represent the Branch and to present the joys of Scottish country dancing to a wider audience – it is not just about competitions or showing off intricate footwork to the cognoscienti!

To this end we are looking for more volunteers of a competent standard to join the team, benefit from superb teaching, and be prepared to volunteer for events in and around London – we even have the occasional weekend trip to festivals such as the one run by Leeds Branch. The class fees contribute to the costs, but expenses are available for performances.

For further information contact the Demonstration Team Co-ordinator.
