Families in London Dance Scottish

Our Branch has put a great deal of effort over the years into putting on classes for children, because Scottish dancing has no future unless new generations can be attracted to take it up. But earlier this year the Branch had to temporarily suspend the Children’s Class because so few children were attending the class. We are now holding some “Taster Classes” to be held in three different places in London on Saturday mornings to find out whether – or where – there is an appetite for Scottish dancing for children in London. The classes will be aimed at families in London who might want to join in Scottish dancing. If you have any relevant contacts or ideas, please let us know and in particular if you know anyone who may be interested in these “Taster Classes” please do your best to encourage them to come along.

Teachers: James Fairbairn and Jenny Kendrick
Next classes:

  • Saturday 11 November: Crown Court Church, Russell Street, London WC2B 5EZ
  • Saturday 20 January 2018: Fresh Ground Church of the Nazarene, 68 Battersea Rise, London SW11 1EQ

Time: 10:15-11:45 am

Class fee: £5 per dancer or £10 per family

Jigs & Reels

‘Jigs & Reels’ is a fantastic new publication for teaching Scottish country dancing to children and young people, it includes a book of lesson plans for 25 dances and 5 party dances, a CD of the music, and a DVD illustrating each dance.
It can be used by teachers of very little experience and is supported by an RSCDS Continuing Professional Development course.  Although linked to the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence, the format of the lesson plans will enable the pack to be used worldwide.
‘Jigs & Reels’ is available for purchase through the RSCDS shop.
