Improving Your Social Dancing
IMG_0519

The class is intended for dancers who have a confident knowledge of the steps and formations found in well known country dances, such as allemande, poussette, set and turn corners, reels of three and four, etc.  More unusual formations will be introduced and a wide selection of dances taught. These dancers are selected from traditional programmes at Balls and ceilidhs and a list of the dances which appear most frequently on dance programmes in the London area.

Teacher: Rachel Wilton

 Musician: Ian Cutts (fiddle)

We are especially fortunate to have Ian Cutts as fiddler for the classes, with Dave McAllister as a reserve or second fiddler when the occasion arises.

The class is fun! Although we do work at improving our dancing through using some technique the main aim of the class is to improve self-awareness, teamwork, humour, fitness and enjoyment in dancing. On the way we hope to develop listening skills (!), musical appreciation, balance and memory to increase self-confidence in dancing with others at Pont Street and other venues.

We have created an email list for ease of communication.

This class follows on immediately from the Beginners class and some dancers do both classes. Both classes have live music and get together at the end of each term for a joint dancing celebration. Some of the class members progress from the popular class to the technique class whilst others prefer to remain in the popular class – enjoying the social aspect of their dancing and improving their repertoire of ever changing dance programmes. Do come and join us one Wednesday evening to try us out!
